DIY “Rae Dunn” Coffee Bar!
We have lived in our house that was built in 1933 for four and a half years now and while we have accomplished so much, the list is never ending with all of the things we hope to get around to. We aren’t sure if that will ever end, but we just keep on going, and keep on making progress.
With that said, I have always wanted to create an area for a coffee bar in our kitchen. We have a BIG kitchen. I remember when we were getting the home inspection done, before we moved in, the home inspector commented on how big the kitchen was and that the space could really be turned into something more functional with all of the room it had.
I’m the type of person who, once I get a thought or idea in my head, I just keep on thinkin’ about it! So every time I’ve walked into my kitchen, I always thought about the cute little coffee bar I have always wanted…
Well now I can say it’s here! As you will see from the pictures, I’m also a recent Rae Dunn fanatic. I started collecting in May of 2019. Well since that has happened, I knew that the coffee bar would display the Rae Dunn mugs. So if you are also a Rae Dunn collector hoping to create your own coffee mug display, you can use my provided measurements. They will work for her newest (bigger) mug collection!

What you will need:
- 15 Coat hooks: side story, I purchased a different set to begin with and when they arrived, my mugs wouldn’t fit in them! So if you are going to be using Rae Dunn as well, I highly recommend using these hooks! It’ll save you the headache 🙂
- 3 pieces of wood- 1x6s, measured to 31 inches long
- Red mahogany miniwax stain
- Drill
- Level
- 6 Anchors
- Picture Hangers
Initially, I purchased a 1″ x 6″ x 8 ft piece of wood and cut it down to my 3 slabs of wood that were 31 inches long.
Then I put one coat of the Red Mahogany MiniWax Stain on all of the pieces. Let it dry for about 10 to 15 minutes and wipe it down with a towel that you can throw away.
Then I laid out my Rae Dunn mugs and made sure that I had spaced them out appropriately as they would be hung on the wall. This was a tedious task! My measurements ended up with the first hook being 3.5 inches from the left edge, then 6 1/8 inches between the next 3 hooks, and 3 inches from the right edge for the last hook. Whew! Does that make sense? I provided a drawing below to help it make sense!
I marked where each coat hook would be placed and then I drilled them in with the nails that were provided. One that was done, I flipped the board around and screwed in the picture hangers, one on each upper corner per board (6 total). The picture hangers I used are heavy duty, so I knew they would be strong enough. Then go in the anchors, make sure you’ve done your measurements and used a level!
The table, I actually found used, but if you absolutely love what I have, you can find it at Target.
There you go! I hope you love it as much as I do!
