Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies

Jump to Recipe

A few weeks ago, my heart melted when my baby girl (who is now 3!) made cookies with me for the first time. We pulled up a chair so that she could stand next to me and she kept saying “rolllll it up, rolllll it up” every time she “stirred” the dough, *pullin’ on my heart strings*. It seems that with every age, I get to enjoy something new, new words, new actions, new feelings, new routines, and I’m just trying to soak it all in! Which is sometimes are to do, as a full-time working mother of 2, the to-do list always seems never-ending (but that can be a whole blog post by itself!).

But getting back to the baking cookies, Ember could not keep herself from eating the dough as we mixed up the ingredients (she is like her mother, haha!), and then rolled up the dough by the spoonfuls and put them on the baking pan. She was so excited to have cookies that she made.

So I wanted to share the recipe that we always use. I’ve used it more than once, and they always turn out so yummy!

An extra tip that I always do to help prevent my cookies from sticking to the pan is ALWAYS use wax paper! I’ve read a few posts where they recommend foil, and I DID NOT have success with that! Wax paper has become my best friend with baking cookies and cakes! Makes the clean up process easier too!

And one more tip before we get to the actual recipe, is I highly recommend cooling racks, as you can see in my pictures. If you leave the cookies on the pan after you take them out of the oven, they continue to cook! So make sure to have some cooling racks available to make sure they don’t overcook :).

Recipe Notes

  1.  If you like "cake-ier" cookies, add in 1 extra cup of flour.  I've made them both ways, and they are both delicious!
  2. I have always used 2 bags of chocolate chips, one white chocolate, and one milk chocolate.  You can alter this to preference. My motto - The more the merrier! 🙂

And there you go! I hope you make some unforgettable memories baking with your loved ones!

Happy home sweet home!

Love, Brittany.
